Course Description
This course delves into the anthropological study of food, examining how cultural, social, and economic factors shape food practices and traditions. Through a blend of theoretical perspectives and ethnographic case studies, students will explore relationships between food and identity, power, localization and globalization, food justice, Indigenous food sovereignty, and more. The course will emphasize diverse foodways from around the world, seeking to foster deep appreciation for the cultural significance of food and its role in human societies. This course satisfies the Core area requirement for Global Diversity FDG2.
